We installed Yoast, All-in-one and SEO framework plugins on different wordpress installations and we observed the outcome in the search console.
Whatever people say on the internet regarding Google SEO, we were unable to see any difference between those three SEO plugins. None of them performed better than the others. Those three SEO plugins are different from each other.
As long as you don’t get an error from the search console everything is fine. To me, wondering whether the canonical of a category page in WordPress is the right one is useless. It is more valuable to get backlinks to the most valuable posts in a category.
I spent hours to try to understand if a SEO behavior would increase my ranking in Google search by adding nofollow to author, category pages using all-in-one or SEO framework. I discovered it was just useless. I think I wasted my time.
The only thing you should check
You should only check that you get the right title and description in Google search, bing or yahoo. That’s all.
