SEO plugins for wordpress are useless and even dangerous for several reasons.
1.Google understands paginated pages. Google understands when there is a paginated page even if you didn’t add rel=”next” and rel=”prev” (reference at Google)
2.SEO plugins slow down your website. Everytime, a page is loaded, wordpress reads the code in every plugin most of the time. The more you have codes in those plugins and the more it slows down your website.
3.SEO plugins can be counterproductive. Imagine that you decide to add a noindex on every category pages. According to John Mueller from Google, Googlebot will cease to visit all pages with a noindex after some times. (reference)
4.There are alternatives. Learn to create your wordpress plugin in which you will add pieces of code. Learn to add your code in functions.php when you face a SEO problem.
5.Sitemap.xml are useless when all the web pages on your website are accessible from an internal links.
6.Your wordpress theme may already contain just the SEO features that are required. For example, you may be able to add a meta title and a meta description to your pages.
7.Look into the code of the most popular wordpress websites like techcrunch and you will see that they don’t use a SEO plugin.
8. My personal opinion. I think that SEO plugins can harm more the SEO of a website than boost it. It is due to the fact, that the mobile version of your website may not be the same that the desktop version. Their canonical logic may also harm your SEO.
