Should you add a comment section to your website?

2019-03-20

It depends. Sometimes, the comments may have an added value when the content of the article is technical. Comments may even be helpful when the article tackles a problem to be solved.

However, we noticed that comments could be a problem for online media.

People use your website as a megaphon

It appears that some people don’t read the articles but go straight to the comment section to share their ideas. Among them, there are attention seekers who live on reading the answers from other contributors. They hijack the comment section. They aren’t trolls or spammers.

They modify the interpretation of your post

A study has concluded that comments modify the interpretation of an online article. This is dangerous for the person who wants to transmit a message.

What to do?

I advise creating a link to a forum discussion thread at the bottom of your article so that you keep your article untouched. This is especially helpful for people who created a political blog.
