After our investigation, we found that there is a huge gap between the successful classified ad theme design like Craiglist and OLX on one hand and the classifieds ad themes on the market. We found that actual classified ad themes had pages that were too heavy (too many pictures), too sophisticated (many useless pictures, graphics), too slow (because of JS and too much html). The web designers didn’t focus on the categories of the classified ads and there are numerous themes where the subcategories aren’t displayed. We ended up with a small number of solutions: one classified ad theme and one classified ad plugin.

WPadverts WP plugin

WPadvert is a plugin for wordpress. It embed on a page the list of ad categories thanks to a short code. It provides two views: grid or listing . It is possible to use WPadverts with woocommerce or Paypal. I chose this plugin because it contains many features that you can find in Craiglist like ad category list with subcategories, simple listings with description, custom fields. There is something really good about WPadverts that is rare among classified ad themes and plugins, it is possible to display many subcategories on the ad category blog, just like on Craiglist. A classified ad page contains all the information that are necessary such as: author, published date, category, description and also a button to contact the author using a message box. It is possible to add several pictures to a classified ad. 

the Adforest theme

Adforest counts several homepage layouts and we liked the two layouts that looked a bit like craiglist with categories and subcategories. Adforest accepts many currencies and it is ready for translation thanks to the WPML plugin. This theme uses WPbakery as a page builder. This theme uses woocommerce for managing payment gateways (stripe, 2checkout and many more…), orders and email confirmations related to payment. Adforest features a bidding system just like the Ebay bidding system. The classified ad page features location map, price, type, date, condition, warranty as special fields.
